University of Hawaii junior Skye Inakoshi earned the Big West Men’s Golfer of the Month award for February following his win at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate two weeks ago.
The junior from Honolulu became the school’s first individual champion in a full-field event in five years and the first UH champion of the Burns Intercollegiate after finishing in a four-way tie for first. Inakoshi, who fired back-to-back rounds of 69, shot 6-under 210 and led the field with 20 birdies.
In capturing medalist honors, Inakoshi bested or tied 15 golfers ranked in the Top 150, including five in the Top 50 on the 6,991-yard par-72 Wailua Golf Course.
The last UH golfer to win a full-field tournament was T.J Kua at the Kauai Intercollegiate in 2011. Inakoshi is UH’s first Big West Men’s Golfer of the Month award winner.
Earlier in the month, Inakoshi was UH’s top finisher at the Amer Ari Invitational, where he tied for 42nd with an even par score of 216. The Mid-Pacific Institute graduate leads the team with a 72.0 scoring average.
Hawaii baseball team to appear on ESPN3
The University of Hawaii baseball team will have a pair of road contests broadcasted on ESPN3 this season as part of the BigWest Conference and ESPN’s collaboration, conference officials announced on Thursday.
The Rainbow Warriors will highlight the back half of Big West Conference play, meeting 2015 conference champion Cal StateFullerton in a pair of ESPN3-televised contests at CSF’s Goodwin Field in Fullerton, Calif. on Saturday, May 20 at 4 p.m. HT andSunday. May 21 at 3 p.m. HT.
In all, 12 Big West baseball games will be aired across ESPN3 and ESPNU platforms this spring.
“This is another solid schedule of games on ESPNU and ESPN3 that will showcase the outstanding baseball and softball programs that play in the Big West Conference,” said Commissioner Dennis Farrell.

UH women’s tennis falls at Cal State Fullerton
FULLERTON, Calif. — The No. 56 University of Hawaii women’s tennis team (6-6, 2-2 Big West) opened their road trip with a4-2 loss at Cal State Fullerton. The Titans won their seventh-straight match as they held off the Rainbow Wahine.
In doubles, Fullerton captured the first point of the match, winning on the No. 1 and 2 courts both by a break. Cal StateFullerton’s No. 1 duo of Alexis Valenzuela and Camille De Leon held off UH’s Sarah Gealer and Klara Pribylova, 6-4, while onthe No. 3 court, Sarah Nuno and Danielle Pham of CSF edged out Hawai’i’s Marina Hruba and Paulina Petriskova also by a 6-4score.
In singles, UH’s Roxanne Resma got the ‘Bows off with a good start, defeating Masako Makiva, 6-2, 6-2 on Court 5. Hawaii’sHruba had her 13-match win-streak snapped, falling for the first time in her collegiate career to Alexis Valenzuela, 6-2, 6-2.It was Hruba’s first match on the No. 1 court. The Titans then took a 3-1 lead after De Leon defeated UH’s Gealer at No. 3, 6-3, 6-2. But Nguyen battled her way back to knock off Nuno in three sets, 6-0, 3-6, 6-4 to cut their deficit to 2-3. But,Fullerton’s Portalatin then clinched the match with a 6-4, 7-5 win over Pribylova, 6-4, 7-5.
The Rainbow Wahine will remain on the road to take on UC Irvine on Saturday at 11 a.m. They will complete their roadtrip witha match against old Western Athletic Conference foe, No. 26 Fresno State on Sunday.
