The State Science and Engineering Fair was held on Oahu March 28-30. Twelve students from Kauai middle and high schools represented the island at the fair, held at the Hawaii Convention Center. The winners are: – Braelyn Cayaban, Waimea Canyon
The State Science and Engineering Fair was held on Oahu March 28-30. Twelve students from Kauai middle and high schools represented the island at the fair, held at the Hawaii Convention Center.
The winners are:
– Braelyn Cayaban, Waimea Canyon Middle School.
Award: First place in Biochemistry category for the Junior Division.
Project: Anaerobic Digestion of Biomass.
Prizes: $200 from the American Society of Civil Engineers and $500 (and $500 to teacher Lisa Yamagata) for Best in Biochemistry from the Queen’s Health Systems Broadcom Masters Award.
– Ritikaa Kumar, Kapaa High School.
Award: Third place in Biochemistry category for the Senior Division.
Project: Honey as a Measure of Environmental Contamination by Glyphosate.
Prizes: $100 from the College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources Alumni Association, $50 with plaque from J.W. Morrow Environmental Management Consultant Plaque from Nalu Studies and $1,000 (and $1,000 to teacher Nicole McKamey) from McInerny Foundation.

Award: First place in Energy- Chemical category for the Senior Division.
Project: The Effects of Silica on Nitzschia sp.’s Lipid Production and Nutraceutical Content.
Prizes: Intel International Science & Engineering Fair Award.

Award: First place in Mathematics for the Senior Division.
Project: The 3n+1 Problem.
Prize: Mu Alpha Theta Award.

Project: Energy Hearts.
Prize: $100 and a Clinical Laboratory Management Association meeting workshop.
