New way of learning math

In response to Annie Crain’s letter (TGI, April 25) “Is it just me?”

No Annie Crain it’s not just you. We just recently had my daughter and grandchildren over for dinner and after, I was able to sit down with my nine-year-old grandson and help him with some math homework, I thought! I was a math major in school and it was the only class that I was well above the average. When my grandson opened his homework and started solving problems, the first thing I noticed is that he had no clue about what times what equals what.

Instead of stopping him and telling him you are doing this the hard way, let me teach you the easy way, I let him continue to show me how he came to the right answer. When he was done he explained to me that he has been shown how to solve and show the problem so that it is self explanatory on why the answer works and understands how he got the answer.

Totally unlike our education days, we were all taught to memorize flash cards so that all functions of problem solving came from what we comprehended. Today, our children are being shown a different way of how to find the answers to problems with less errors and receiving a better understanding of why and how they found those answers.

The schools expect us to help our children with their homework, we need to understand as well.

Dangers of electromagnetic radiation cannot be ignored

All truth passes through three stages. First it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.

These words by Arthur Schopenhauer express what is going on right now in regard to electromagnetic radiation being emitted by so many devices. Ann Louise Gittleman in her book, “ZAPPED,” talks about the hazards of electronic pollution. Rates of autism, ADHD and learning disabilities have soared in the last 40 years.

In 1970 about one in 10,000 children were diagnosed with autism. Today, the incidence is estimated at one in 68. Is it really a coincidence that these statistics have gone up at the same time as burgeoning technologies are surrounding us with electromagnetic radiation.

Many noted scientists are sounding the same alarm saying there is a connection between electromagnetic radiation and the escalation of all manor of diseases, brain tumors, many cancers, ALS, cardiac disease and diabetes. Studies show if you live within 1,200 feet of a cell tower your chances of contracting a cancer are three times higher than the national average.

In the near future the county council will be approached by Verizon to put up a 150-foot cell tower on behalf of the Sealodge II board. It is an absolutely insane idea and I urge the council to vote it down as a prelude to your decision.

It is a moral imperative that the council as a body view the documentary “Resonance beings of frequency.” Mankind has saturated itself in an ocean of artificial frequencies. They are all around us, filling the air and overwhelming the earth’s natural resonance. This DVD can be found on the internet. With at least 17 of these cell towers on our island, we are fouling our nest, desecrating the aina.
