Roy Miyashiro said he went out and found extra tables and chairs for the bon dance at the Hanapepe Soto Zen temple. He was waiting on his cell phone for the cue to start hitting the gong in the bell tower which was dedicated in 1935 (according to Warren “Mamok” Miyamoto), and the only structure from the original church after it was moved from Wahiawa to its current location.
Kudos to Gerald Hirata on pulling so many people together to create this extravaganza (Yoshi Tsurumi of The Change Academy said it is traditional), and Joanna Carolan had her family ride the free shuttle from the Hanapepe Art Walk (Joanna said they had people parking in the park for the night).
Aloha to Mary Buza Sims who will be moving to Seattle on Thursday. Mary was helping the St. Theresa’s crew work on the flying saucers (Chef Carla Dusenberry didn’t even have to check on them), and Shane Kadono came back from California to enjoy all the festivities.
OK, ‘nuff said. It’s time to go check out the historic artifacts from the Historic Film Night and Exhibit at The Shops at Kukuiula (Melissa McFerrin Warrack said they have Plan B in case it rains).
