Lance Kato
Lance Kato of Hanamaulu, passed away on July 31, 2016 at Queen’s Medical Center. Born on November 21, 1962, he was a security guard at Smith’s Tropical Paradise.
He is preceded in death by his father, Robert Kato; and father-in-law, Gregorio Acosta.
Lance is survived by his wife, Melrose Kato; son, Lionel Kato; daughters, Ellane and Yannel Kato; mother, Kay Kato; brothers, Blaine (Lorraine) Kato and Glenn (Kehau) Kato; sisters, Laverne (Umesh) Gheewala and June (Jeffrey) Ikeda; and mother-in-law, Lucrecia Acosta.
Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2016 at the Garden Island Mortuary Chapel in Lawai. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. with services to follow at 11 o’clock.

Dorothy Leilani Ellis Zeffiro
Dorothy Leilani Ellis Zeffiro, former Miss Kaua’i and Miss Hawai’i 1953, and the youngest of six children of former Kauai County Chairman William Ellis and Maria (Maraea) Pihaleo Ellis of Kupolo, Kaua’i, passed away at Wilcox Memorial Hospital — Lihue, Kaua’i on Saturday, morning July 23, 2016.
She was blessed with flaming auburn haired beauty, vibrant witty personality, infectious sense of humor, compassion for the needy, love of family and a radiant glowing personality that exemplified the titles she earned as Miss Kaua’i and Miss Hawai’i 1953. She truly represented Hawaii’s cosmopolitan population since she was of Hawaiian, Chinese, Japanese, English, Irish, Scotch, German descent.
Educated at The Kamehameha Schools and Kauai High School and following the Miss America Pageant competition in Atlantic City, New Jersey, she enrolled at Bryant College in Connecticut and later married college schoolmate Frank Zeffiro, Jr. of Torrington, Connecticut. After his military service Dorothy and Frank chose to raise their young children in Hawai’i, making their home on Kaua’i in 1977. Her husband Frank, a Purchasing Agent for Lihue Plantation on Kaua’i, preceded her in death in 1997.
Survived by sisters Edith Ellis and Winona Ellis Rubin of Honolulu; sons: Frank (Laurie) Zeffiro III of Connecticut and William Ellis Zeffiro and his family (Keola and Jordyn) of Kauai; daughter Winona (Mrs. Shane) Nelson and family (Seth and Mia) of Idaho and numerous ‘ohana.

Dalsay Layne Namolokama Keuma of Waimea, Kauai, Hawaii passed away on July 30, 2016 at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 63. Born on Jan. 2, 1953 in Waimea, Kauai he was a laborer for Kauai Commercial Trucking Company.
Preceded in death by his father, John Keuma; mother Jennie Kahalekoma Keuma; brothers, Wilton and Daniel Keuma; Father-in-law, Edward C. Rita Sr.; brother-in-law Edward Rita Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Verlynn “Lindy” Keuma, Waimea; daughters, Stacy (James) DeBenedetti, California; Dayne Keuma, California; Tasha “Toots” (Nanette) Keuma, Waimea; sons, Tyson (Delphine) Keuma, Colorado; Tarryn “Mana” (Jen) Keuma, Kalaheo; Sisters, Donna “Manu” (Dennis) Tokuoka, Maui; Charlene (Dave) Kerwin, Hawaii; brothers, Eldon “Kaulei” (Joyce) Kahalekomo, Indiana; Keenan (Susan) Keuma, Lihue; Shyronjon “Kainoa” (Lani) Keuma, Hanapepe; Frank (Laura) Keuma, California; DeLayne (Glennis) Pai, Hanapepe, 13 grandchildren, Abigail DeBenedetti, Haylie DeBenedetti, Zoey DeBenedetti, Noelani Martinez, Napua Martinez, Kelii Martinez, Kuuipo Martinez, Kylen Keuma, Jayden Keuma, Kylie Keuma, Kyleah Keuma, Siah Keuma-Poole, Skylar Poole, numerous aunties, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins & friends.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Aug. 20, 2016 at the Borthwick Kauai Mortuary, Koloa. Friends may visit with the family from 9-10:30 a.m., Service to begin at 10:30-11:30 a.m. Family suggests casual attire.
