The Kauai County Farm Bureau Fair is described as “four days of food, farming, and family fun!”
It delivers on that promises.
The annual gathering at Vidinha Stadium begins Thursday and continues through Sunday. It is more than worth the cost of admission, which is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors, $2 keiki 4-12 and free for keiki three and under. And we might as well quickly outline the hours: 6 to midnight Thursday and Friday, noon to midnight Saturday and noon to 11 p.m. Sunday.
A special section on the fair came out in Wednesday’s TGI. Stop by our office at 3-3137 Kuhio Highway to pick one up. It includes everything and anything you need to know.
OK, now that we have the formalities out of the way, let’s look at what awaits inside the fair once it opens. In no particular order, you’ll find:
w Thursday: Honey tasting, a petting zoo, lip sync battle, bingo, Kapaa Middle School Choir and Ukulele Band, and the Gypsy Cowboys. The fruit and vegetable show opens, too, along with the beef steer and goat shows.
w Friday: 4-H lamb and hog shows, a petting zoo, Kauai Cattlemen’s Association beef tasting, Memphis Ukulele Band and the 7th annual Celebrity Chief Cook-off and a performance by master hypnotist, Greg Babaylo.
w Saturday: Aloha Dance Studio performance, HMSA Happy Healthy Keiki Parade, Kauai Woodturners Demo, taro presentation with Haraguchi Ohana, the art of Bonsai with the Kauai Bonsai Club and music by Not My First Rodeo and Jordan Segundo.
w Sunday: Zumba demo, dance exhibition with KUGA, cooking with Sam Choy, music by First Cut, a $500 winner take all blackout bingo, and church services by New Hope Kauai.
That’s a lineup sure to keep everyone eating, playing and having fun.
But even more important than the activities, the rides, the music and the food booths, the commercial and nonprofit booths, the fair is a wonderful place to spend time with friends and family. And with young and old often busy these days, finding ways to spend time with loves ones is always a challenge.
