LIHUE —An Eleele man charged with allegedly attempting to kill his pregnant girlfriend behind the Eleele Big Save is requesting a status date while he discusses issues with his case with the state.
Christopher Cruz, 33, is s charged with eight counts, which include attempted murder in the second degree, kidnapping, abuse of family or household members, terroristic threatening in the second degree, reckless endangering in the second degree and driving without a license.
The status date is scheduled for Sept. 8 at 8 a.m. before Fifth Circuit Court Chief Judge Randal Valenciano. A motion to suppress statements Cruz made to police is also on the calendar.
Prosecuting Attorney Justin Kollar said the state and deputy public defender are “still discussing a couple of issues in the case, but it’s still too soon to say whether (the case) will settle or go to trial.”
The trial date is set for Sept. 26.
