SAN DIEGO —A man accused of driving drunk and killing a 2010 Kauai High School graduate is being held in lieu of $2 million bail.
Roy Dunkin is charged with gross vehicular manslaughter and DUI causing great bodily injury in the death of 24-year-old Lucas Makana Riley, the San Diego Tribune reported. He pleaded not guilty in San Diego Superior Court Wednesday.
If convicted, the 51-year-old faces 15 years and four months in prison.
Dunkin was driving a full-size GMC Denali HD pickup heading north along state Route 67 Saturday night when he crossed the center lane into the southbound lane, the Tribune reported. The pickup first hit a late model Buick sedan and then caused the fatal head-on collision with Riley’s vehicle.
Dunkin will be back in court on Sept. 7 for a preliminary hearing.
