LIHUE — Janice Manique had the best round of the day Wednesday at the Kapaa High School air rifle range to lead the Warriors to its sweep over the Island School Voyagers — 1,169-1,003 for the boys, and 1,207-350 for the girls.
Over at the Kauai High School range, the host Red Raiders split its series with Waimea High School — the Waimea girls taking a 1,212-1,169 win over Kauai while the Kauai boys claimed the 1,214-1,126 win over the Menehune.
With the split, the Kauai boys take the lead with a 3-0 record in the Kauai Interscholastic Federation air riflery season which runs through Oct. 5. The Waimea girls are also 3-0 and claim the lead.
Manique fired a 92 in the prone position, blasted an 80 in the standing position, and closed the day with an 85 in the kneeling position for a total 257 points, the highest points in the field of female shooters.
Khryshia Pascual returned to lead the Menehune girls with a 255 (88-79-88), just two points better than Kailee Arakaki (94-71-88-253), the Kauai girls’ leader.
Brandon Marcos, a returning Kauai marksman, topped the boys’ scoring with a 262 (91-83-88).
Waimea’s Braden Kobayashi copped Menehune high-point honors for the third consecutive week, finishing with a 245 (87-75-83).
Island School boys’ top point-getter went to Bryce Yoshida with a 212 (81-66-65), and Kapaa’s Maverick Yadao continued to pull in high-point honors at 250 (87-81-82).
Kauai next hosts Kapaa at its range in Lihue while Waimea travels to the Island School range in Puhi, Wednesday. Both matches start at 3 p.m.
