LIHUE — Rental applications are being accepted for the second phase of Kaniko’o.
The affordable housing community for seniors in Lihue is set for completion in the next few months. The development is specifically for seniors ages 62 and above.
Phase two consists of 30 rental units with 24 one-bedroom and six two-bedroom apartments ranging from 606 to 778 square feet. The first phase of 60 units was completed last year and all of those units are occupied.
Rents for the one-bedroom units in phase two will be $809 per month while the two-bedroom units will rent for $970 per month.
“An achievement like Kaniko‘o takes the support of countless advocates, organizations and local and state governments. All of the partners in this project have a true sense of commitment to quality affordable housing and understand what it takes to support a thriving community,” said Kanani Fu, Kauai County Housing Director.
The amenities for phase two include energy efficient electric appliances and lighting, vinyl plank floors, cable hook-ups, ceiling fans, low E-glass windows and laundry facilities.
In addition, the complex features a community center with a kitchenette, garden plots and drought resistant landscaping.
The apartments are also designed to take advantage of the prevailing tradewinds for natural ventilation.
Applications are being accepted through EAH Housing, a managing company.
“EAH Housing is pleased to provide quality management services for the second phase of this project, offering our kupuna with a sense of freedom and independence. We’re thankful to see the benefit of developing a community for those in need,” said Kevin Carney, Vice President of EAH Housing Hawaii.
