Celia Fraticelli was totally surprised when she arrived at the Hanapepe Community Center, last month.
“I thought we were going to Wong’s for a family dinner and wondered why we went past it,” Fraticelli said. “I really was totally surprised by them.”
Her children planned a party celebrating Fraticelli’s 80th birthday at the center, complete with music by Wally Rita y Los Kauaianos, Charlie Iona and John Mahi, and a spread prepared and catered by Pat Tayaman.
Family and friends came from throughout the state to enjoy the celebration, including Fraticelli’s children who came from as far away as Okinawa. Fraticelli’s nephew, Rob Rivera and family, and cousin Evelyn Rivera flew in from Hayward, Calif.
Planning started 10 months ago when Fraticelli’s children arranged to get all of the family together to bless the 75-year old house owned by Salome and Emilio Rivera and remodeled by Fraticelli’s son, John Fraticelli.
The blessing took place the day following Fraticelli’s birthday party.
