PRINCEVILLE — University of Hawaii’s Skye Inakoshi fired a 3-under-par 69 to lead the Hawaii Warrior team, Monday during the second round of the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational golf tournament.
Inakoshi’s improvement from the opening round was joined by Justin “Pono” Tokioka, who rebounded to a 2-over-par 74 after carding an 83 during the opening round. Samuel Schwartz picked up two strokes from his opening round, finishing with a 74 to help the Hawaii team to a two-day, 602 (307-295) showing, putting them a stroke ahead of UC Irvine and Idaho, both teams carding a 603.
On the individualist course, Bryden Salvador, a player from Kapaa High School’s golf team, finished a stroke ahead of his Sunday round, ending at 82. He sits at 109 at 21-over.
No. 25 Mississippi’s Braden Thornberry fired a 7-under par 65 in improving conditions at the Makai Golf Club to keep Ole Miss in the lead of team scoring at 553 (277-276). Noah West, the Ole Miss leader in the opening round, and Ben Wolcott helped the lead with 70 performances, and Kerry Sweeney added a one-under 71.
Missouri’s Hayden Buckley finished the Monday round at 4-under 68 and leads the individual golfers with a 36-hole, 10-under par 134, a stroke ahead of Sunday’s leader Mateusz Gradecki of East Tennessee State, who sits in second place with a 135 after finishing the round 2-under 70.
Thornberry, Mississippi’s leader, is third at 136, a stroke ahead of Andrew Ertel and Dominick Gennusso, both of Sam Houston State and tied for fourth place at 137.
The final round starts at 8 a.m., today, with a shotgun start at the Makai Golf Club at Princeville.
