• Offering up a prayer and poem
I am disappointed to see the return of GMO corn along the highway on the Westside and the failure of the fact finding committee on pesticide drift, as expected, come to no resolution. (I am) saddened that Mitch Milan of Waimea was exposed to malathion drift as he surfed in Polihale the last week of November. I know that as a group we could be doing better than this and I make this prayer:
The world still goes round
And it still is profound
Life is ambivalent
Is what I think the Buddha meant
Through the darkness and serious madness
Are bits and pieces of glittering gladness
What should be shouted from every steeple
Do we ever tire of the taste of evil
Just what is it about this knowledge
That mires us here in this brutal college
Technology that was to set us free
Leads us back to slavery
Like a virus that kills its host
Is the image that fits this most
What is it that we don’t get
The material world is transient
That we are middle management
To the earth’s environment
And how it is our life is spent
Living breathing sacrament
As this world in two is rent
We would find our way to Eden
If we really wanted freedom
Never pause in our cause
Until we make our way to Oz
Lord pray a spark of grace
To re-ignite the human race
That we might climb from where we fell
Back to Heaven and out of Hell
In this motion picture school
Its not what you have its what you do
And where it is that you abide
At the great soul divide
