Katie has a big heart.
She has fostered and adopted five children. The oldest is Jane, who is now an adult and had a baby this year. Katie’s young children are one to five years old and are very active and keep her busy. She tries to involve them in activities to learn new things. Katie also helps others by caring for their children when they are in need.
While Katie does all she can for others, she has little time or money to do anything for herself. It would be wonderful if Katie and her daughter Jane could have a spa day as a treat for themselves and toys for the children.
Another adult with a giving spirit but who could use some Christmas cheer is Carol.
Carol has not been able to work much due to her health issues, which includes having multiple heart surgeries and having a heart monitor recently placed. She worries about her two daughters Amy, 5, and Emma, 3, and misses them when she has to fly to Honolulu for doctor appointments. She tries her best to be upbeat in front of them so they don’t have any worries.
She is trying to save money to buy bicycles for both girls this Christmas. The only thing she needs is the airfare to get to appointments with her heart specialist in Honolulu.
The Garden Island/Zonta Christmas Fund was established in the early 1980s to help families like these during the holidays.Donations to the Christmas Fund are distributed by Zonta Club members, who purchase gift certificates at local stores to make wishes come true.
Each donated dollar is accounted for and carefully recorded. There are no administrators collecting salaries. Volunteers run the show.
