POIPU — There was a dog who was blind and deaf. There was a dog who limped after a long life as a hunting dog, and a dog who was described as “too rambunctious.”
“These are some of the animals rescued by the Kauai Animal Welfare Society,” said Dinah Chao of KAWS. “They represent some of the animals who are available for adoption.”
The animals attracted a large group of associates and department managers from the Sheraton Kauai Resort Thursday when the Sheraton presented KAWS with an award of $3,533.15, representing a month’s proceeds from Table 53, located in the resort’s RumFire restaurant.
“We told them some of the animals might be coming,” said June Cappiello, the Sheraton Kauai director of public relations. “And look at all of them. They love animals.”
Chao said the funds will be earmarked for use on Kauai only.
“We won’t use any of it for our transfer program,” Chao said. “Instead, it will help with vetting programs like shots for preventative measures, boarding, food and training. They also help cover supplies for our cats.”
Currently, KAWS has at least seven dogs available for adoption.
The award was part of the Sheraton Kauai’s You Dine, We Donate program where all net food and beverage proceeds from Table 53 is donated to a different local organization each month.
Since 2012, Table 53 has generated more than $165,000 toward Kauai charitable causes.
This month’s designated recipient is the Kauai Sailing Association whose mission is to teach life skills through marine awareness, serving Kauai’s children, adults and the community through its workshops and training camps, its Junior Leadership Program, sailing instruction and community volunteerism.
Funds from Table 53 will help fund youth leadership courses and youth scholarships.
