WAIMEA — Kiichi Fujii waited patiently for the clock to strike 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
“This is dinner,” Fujii said as he loaded his reusable shopping bag with plates of food from the Project Grad menu of pasteles stew or laulau plate at the Waimea Carnival, hosted by the Waimea Alumni And Friends.
Proceeds from the carnival benefit the school’s operations, the PTSA, and the WAFF Foundation which provides scholarships to graduating seniors among its list of contributions to benefit Waimea High School and acknowledge the accomplishments of its alumni.
The signature community event drew people from around the island to enjoy the offerings, many being unique to Waimea High School including the baked goods from the school’s cafeteria, and the fresh micro vegetables by the school’s agriculture students harvested to order in the country store.
