Sanoe Kaluahine captured the Best Reaction award, but fell short of the top prize in the Junior Dragster class Saturday night during the Garden Isle Racing Association drag races contested at the Kauai Raceway Park in Mana.
Kaluahine, sponsored by Charles of Maui, Teddy and Kalani Tom, Dwayne Muffly and the Vierra family, came up short against Christopher Silva on the top end after leaving the line on a .120 light to run 7.937 seconds against her 7.90 dial-in, reaching 82.27 mph.
Silva, sponsored by RC Fabrication, 420 Air, Don Silva, Ekolu Valpoon, Keola Valpoon, Keola and Janil Ke, Kauai Vehicle Service Center, and papa and mama, captured the top spot in Junior Dragsters on a .016 light to run 7.903 seconds against his 7.90 dial-in and reaching 82.87, just a hair faster than Kaluahine.
Taylor Montemayor, capturing Closest to Dial In honors, filled in third place in the class over the efforts of Danika Braun.
Muscle V8
Esteve Fernando, sponsored by Kaya Race Fuels, Uemura Racing & Ef’um Fabrications, held off the efforts of Brandon Fujishige to capture the Muscle V8 class after leaving on a .021 light to run 11.610 on a 11.5 dial in, reaching 100.57 mph.
Fujishige, sponsored by Kauai Auto Repair, Auto Repair Express, reached 117.14 mph after leaving on a .113 light to run 11.818 seconds on an 11.78 dial-in, settled for runner up honors in the class.

Similarly, faster is not necessarily a winner when Brian Dow left the line on a .152 light to post a 10.070-second quarter-mile against his 9.89 dial in and reach 132.83 mph to come up short against Wendall Nonaka for runner up honors in the class.
Nonaka, sponsored by Puhi Industrial Parts & Bearing, Nex Gen Diesel, Dan Suga Construction, Western Motors and Korey Wise, captured the top spot in the class after leaving with a .071 light to run a 10.875 on his 10.83 dial in, reaching 119.09 mph.

A red light at the start was costly for Mary Kealoha, sponsored by Hamasaki Brother’s Racing, Kevin’s Automotive Repair, and Kealoha Transfer, who tripped the button by 0.00833 second.
The red light gave the class to Walt Barnes, sponsored by Destination Autoworks and Kauai Power Yoga who left with a .163 light to run 11.599 seconds on a 10.99 dial in and reach 121.30 mph.
Top Gun
Riley Takayama, sponsored by Bobby Matsuda Race Cars, Hadama Service, Pembrook Industries, and Manny’s Repair Service, controlled the field in the finals of this class, leaving the line on a .109 light to run 7.569 on a 7.49 dial in and reaching 179.27 mph.
Russell Izumo, sponsored by Nex Gen Diesel, Bonilla Motorsports, Vierra Racing and Konohiki Seafoods, filled in the runner up spot after leaving on a .134 light to run an 8.318 for a break out after going faster than his 8.32 dial in, reaching 159.96 mph.
Sport Compact
Another red light, this time by Micah Robley tripping the switch at 0.07997, gave top honors in the class to Robby Silva Jr. who left on a .053 light to run the quarter-mile on a 12.253 against his 12.20 dial in and reaching 108.2 mph.
Bike
Mike Wellman, sponsored by Suzuki Kauai, had no competition in the finals, leaving on a .498 light to run a 10.399 against his 10.00 dial in and reaching 142.60 mph.
Street
Astin Aragaki, sponsored by Efront Bunch, Vapors Paradise, and HT Racing, broke out in the finals of the class after leaving on a .164 light and running a 14.663 and reaching 92.52 mph, breaking out on his 15.10 dial in.
The break out gave the class to Eric Lazar, sponsored by Chris Tangonan, I Roots and Ho‘olono Natural Remedies, who also broke out after leaving on a .136 light to run a 15.160, breaking out on his 15.26 dial in after reaching 90.79 mph.
Buyback
Another break out, this time by Kevin Wataya, gave the class to Robby Silva, sponsored by Rob’s Towing and J and N Pressure Washing, who left the line on a .164 light to run a clean 7.980 against his 7.09 dial in and reaching 176.22 mph.
Wataya, sponsored by HDH Productions, Pau Hana Tees, All Bent Sport Fishing, left on a .154 light to stop the clock at 13.577 seconds (93.42 mph), breaking out on his 13.80 dial in.
