Kauai Japanese Cultural Society still has tickets for Matsuri Kauai Aloha dinner reception on Friday, Oct. 6 at Kauai Beach Resort in the Jasmine Ballroom from 5:30 to 8:30 pm.
A special dinner menu is prepared for the reception with more than 36 dignitaries and guests from Kauai’s sister city of Iwaki and Suo Oshima with special guest, Mr. Katsukuni Tanaka of US Japan Society of Hiroshima.
Mr. Tanaka who is a Hiroshima bomb survivor, was responsible for coordinating Kauai Yankees’ Little League team’s goodwill games in Hiroshima in July 2017.
He also brought the first hula halau from Kauai to Hiroshima to perform at the famous Otagawa Firework Festival in July 1987. State of Hawaii and Hiroshima Prefecture are celebrating its 20th anniversary as Sister State program which started in 1997.
The dinner will include a mini-magic show by Shu Igari, Iwaki’s Mr. Magic and performance by Torao Hikariyama, a winning enka singer from Honolulu as well as other Japanese cultural music and dance performances.

The reception is a prelude to the 32nd Matsuri Kauai Festival which will be held Saturday, Oct. 7 at the Kauai War Memorial Convention Hall in Lihue from 9 am-3 pm. The festival is free and open to the public.
