Kapaa High School’s varsity football team defeated Waimea High, 47-21, Friday evening at Vidinha Stadium.
After getting a 19-7 lead at halftime, Kapaa (3-0, 1-0 KIF) scored four consecutive touchdowns to extend its lead to 40 points. Davis connected for 33-yard and a 31-yard completions in two of Kapaa’s second half scores.
Davis totaled 308 yards and four touchdowns on 15-25 passing.
Warriors junior running back Ryno Banasihan lead the team in rushing with 135 yard and a touchdown on 16 carries.
Kapaa junior receiver Jai Alapai accounted for two touchdowns — one on a 27-yard catch from Davis in the second quarter, and the other in the third quarter on a 33-yard catch.
Waimea (1-2, 0-2 KIF) showed resolve with two touchdowns late in the fourth quarter.
Menehune senior Noah Simao, who is typically an lineman on offense, got a few snaps at running back and punched a 2-yard run into the end zone with just more than two minutes left.
Later on, Menehune junior quarterback Lacin Montemayor threw an 11-yard strike to senior running back Avery Miguel in the end zone in the waning seconds.
Montemayor was 12-23 for 112 yards and a score in the air.
Miguel led the team in rushing with 74 yards on 19 carries. He also had a couple of receptions for 23 yards and a touchdown.
Menehune senior receiver William Kamaka-Riley hauled in six catches for 71 yards receiving.
Both teams were heavily penalized throughout the game. Kapaa was flagged 16 times, and Waimea was penalized 11 times.
Kapaa also won the junior varsity contest against Waimea, 42-13.
Kapaa will play Kauai High (2-1, 1-0 KIF) on Friday at Vidinha Stadium. The JV game will begin 5 p.m. and the varsity will follow.
Waimea next plays on Sept. 16 versus Kauai at Vidinha Stadium.
