NUMILA — Chazlyn Aki, recently promoted to roastmaster at Kauai Coffee Company, has a roast named for her.
“It’s a light roast,” Aki said Monday. “It’s the only light roast Kauai Coffee offers, so this is quite an honor to have a roast named after me.”
Aki will be in the visitor center roasting room plying her trade Saturday when Kauai Coffee hosts its annual open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
There will be promotions and sales.
“We’ll also have a special for all the coffee Chazlyn roasts,” said Darla Domingo, Kauai Coffee marketing director.
Proceeds from the sale of roasts that day will go to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life.
The open house will feature an ugly sweater contest, culinary demonstrations by Kauai Community College culinary-arts students, scavenger hunt, a cooking sweepstakes for anyone using Kauai Coffee in their dish, visits with Santa and games.
Chef Rey Montemayor of the Kauai Marriott Resort &Beach Club will be receiving the $2,000 award on behalf of the Kauai Independent Food Bank for winning the chef’s challenge at the Kauai County Farm Bureau Fair.
Jerika Gonzales said she’s almost done with her ugly sweater.
“My son Jaxcen and I are going to be in it,” Gonzales said. “You need to come so you can see us. It’s going to be a lot of fun — just keep it PG13.”
