LAWAI — Following up on the popular Taiko Drum Workshop, the Lawai International Center is announcing a collaboration of three calligraphy artists and teachers.
LAWAI — Following up on the popular Taiko Drum Workshop, the Lawai International Center is announcing a collaboration of three calligraphy artists and teachers.
Beginners of all ages are welcome to join the hands-on experience.
“Hidden within the Japanese Kanji characters is a fresh way to understand the world,” a press release explained. “With the simplicity of paper, sumi ink and a soft brush, we learn balance, harmony and focus.”
“Through the artistic process we come to see beauty beyond the merely visual,” the release said. “At first glance we go to the shape of the brush stroke we have created. As important as the ink on the paper is, we begin to realize the empty leftover space on the page is of great importance.”
The classes are Saturday. Registration for session one is 10 a.m., with the class running from 10:30 to 11:30.
Registration for session two is 11:30 and the class is 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.
Lunch and workshop supplies are included. Suggested minimum donation is $25. Proceeds benefit the nonprofit Lawai International Center. To register, email dorahong888@gmail.com, text or call 651-8893.
