LIHU‘E — Diane Keeler, the Walmart store manager, said no one should go hungry, Friday when she presented a check from the Walmart Foundation to the Hawai‘i Foodbank Kaua‘i, represented by Wes Perreira and Tisha Remigio.
“Our store team is proud to join with other community members and other busineses to fight hunger on Kaua‘i, and support those in need,” Keeler said. “No one should have to wonder where their next meal is coming from.”
The award is made toward the Hawai‘i Foodbank’s statewide annual Food Drive Day that was held on Aug. 27 where the Hawai‘i Foodbank’s Amy Marvin announced a statewide goal of raising a million meals by the end of August.
“I just got an email from O‘ahu,” said Remigio. “Everyone was collecting to Aug. 31, and according to estimations, I think we made the goal of one million meals, thanks to this contribution from Walmart and its store team, and everyone else who contributed during the annual Food Drive Day.”
Using the Hawai‘i Foodbank app for calculating and factoring, Remigio said the $5,000 Walmart contribution represents 10,750 meals.
“That’s a lot of meals,” Remigio said. “Thank you.”
