Shearwater deaths alarm residents

This sign warns the public to be wary of a wedge-tailed shearwater or uau kani nesting area. It is recommended that people stay on the footpath to avoid disturbing nests and that pet owners keep their dogs leashed and keep their cats indoors.

HA‘ENA — Five wedge-tailed shearwater seabirds were found dead in Ha‘ena in the area between Tunnels (Makua) Beach and Camp Naue in two separate incidents this summer.
