Eric Cano and Trysen Kaneshige were trying their hand at photographic art. We should talk story with Jock Goodman more often — he’s got a lot of teach. Elvrine Chow was busy with keiki and plumeria, but still made it to the yacht races. Who won? OZone? Weatherly?
Lauren Malapit was doing double-duty at Kopilani, where she developed a line of beauty and health-care items from coffee on Kaua‘i, and Kava by her aunty, where they had the real kava mix. Very imaginative!
Gates open at 6 p.m. at the Kapa‘a Beach Park Saturday, Aug. 6, where the Michael Drake ‘ohana hosts an evening of Siva, or fire-knife performances, and “Kaua‘i-style friendly competition” as part of the Heiva i Kaua‘i that kicks off with Mayor Derek Kawakami offering his words of remembrance for Heiva leader the late Stella Miyoshi. Kudos, Tepairu and Jo Manea, and all those hands that are bringing back the Tahitian-dance extravaganza after no heiva for the past two years because of the pandemic.
