HONOLULU — Kaua‘i High School’s Kaleonahe “Nahe” Bukoski was named one of the members of the 2022 Hall of Honor class Sunday by the Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association.
Bukoski, a Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation standout in girls volleyball and soccer, is the sole KIF student athlete named to the prestigious Hall of Honor class of 12 outstanding student athletes from throughout the state.
Also named to the Hall of Honor are Ailana Agbayani of ‘Iolani School, who starred in Red Raiders’ softball. Aiva Arquette of Saint Louis School was a mark in basketball and baseball, and O’shen Cazimero of Kohala High School made a name in Big Island Interscholastic Federation basketball.
Erin Hikiji of Mililani High School starred in wrestling and judo, and Devin Kahahawai of Kamehameha Schools Kapalama was a force on the volleyball court. Jovi Lefotu, also of ‘Iolani School, made marks in basketball and volleyball.
Grace Monahan of the University Laboratory School starred in swimming, Kaliana Salazar-Harrell of Konawaena High School made marks in basketball, and Kale Spencer of Kamehameha School Maui was a three-sport threat in basketball, volleyball and football.
Blaze Sumiye of Moanalua High School was outstanding in wrestling, judo and football, and Teva Tafiti of Punahou School found his mark in football.
Each inductee to the Hall of Honor will be awarded a $2,000 scholarship courtesy of the HHSAA and Enterprise Holdings, which owns and operates the Enterprise Rent-A-Car, National Car Rental and Alamo Rent-A-Car brands.
The Honolulu Star-Advertiser is a co-sponsor of the annual award program.
The HHSAA also announced that due to the rising COVID-19 case numbers, the traditional induction awards dinner has been canceled for the third straight year.
Hall of Honor inductees from the five HHSAA member leagues were selected by a 13-person committee of current and former sports reporters, athletic directors and coaches from around the state. The criteria is based primarily on athletic achievement, but character, sportsmanship, academic record and community service are also taken into consideration.
The Hall of Honor program has been recognizing the top 12 Hawai‘i senior student-athletes each year since 1983.
