Shirley ‘Loling’ Fuertes Medeiros
Shirley “Loling” Fuertes Medeiros, 83, of Koloa, passed away on May 15, 2022, in Lihu‘e. She was born on July 12, 1938, in Waimea. She worked as an arts and crafts instructor for the County of Kaua‘i Agency on Elderly Affairs.
She was preceded in passing by parents Basilio and Rosario Fuertes.
She is survived by loving husband John Ventura Medeiros Jr., children John A. (Kimberley) Medeiros, Mark A. (Cheryl Polikapu-Medeiros) Medeiros, Paul A. Medeiros, Jeannine Medeiros and Joannell (Wayne) Lemi, grandchildren John M.T. Medeiros, Jason A.Y. Medeiros, Chyler P. Medeiros, Marxon Medeiros, Brian K.K. Medeiros, Rachel K.K. Medeiros, Natasha Lemi, Rosie (Kaven) Walag and Lorie Lemi, great-grandchildren Sofina Boyd Medeiros, Sampson K. Emayo, Zaven Walag, Kaiven Walag, Sarah Singh and Juanito Singh.
Services will be held at a later date.

Harriet K. Silva
It is with extreme sadness that our family announces the passing of our beloved wife, mother and grandmother.
Harriet K. Silva, of Kalaheo, passed away on May 12, 2022. Harriet (Sakuda) was born on Aug. 7, 1949, in Lihu‘e. She was 72 years old and received dialysis treatment for more than 25 years. She was a sweet and loving person and will be deeply missed by her family and friends. She loved traveling to Japan, Las Vegas and to Honolulu to spend time with her precious children and grandchildren. She was a person who loved animals.
She is survived by husband Alfred Silva, Jr., son Troy (Cherise) Silva, daughter Seanyelle (Edward) Yagi, and grandchildren Trista Silva, Callie Silva, Aiden Yagi and Carter Silva, and brother Warren (Terry) Sakuda.
A service is at the Garden Island Mortuary on Saturday, May 28, with visitation from 9:30 to 11 a.m., with a service to follow. The family requests that all guests wear masks indoors and no koden (monetary gifts) will be accepted. Interment will take place following the service for members of the family.

Dale “Sparky” Costales passed away on April 23, 2022, at the age of 60 on Kaua‘i. He was born on March 23, 1962, in Los Angeles. He was a self-employed proprietor of bike rentals.
He was preceded in death by parents Felipe Costales and Carol Ann Redding Costales.
He is survived by wife Melissa Mia Costales, sons Brandon Costales of Kaua‘i, Angelo LeClair of Mt. Vernon, Washington and Gail LeClair of Maricopa, Arizona, grandchild Malakai Kameron Costales, brothers Tony Costales of San Diego, Robert Costales of Federal Way, Washington and Scott Costales of Coos Bay, Oregon, and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life is Saturday, May 28, at the Kapa‘a Neighborhood Center from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Melissa Mia Costales passed away on May 5, 2022, at the age of 57, on Kaua‘i. She was born on Dec. 27, 1964, in Encino, California. She was into project management and implementation.
She was preceded in death by husband Dale “Sparky” Costales, father Glen Creston Easterling and mother Gail Annette Wilson.
She is survived by sons Brandon Costales of Kaua‘i, Angelo LeClair of Mt. Vernon, Washington and Gail LeClair of Maricopa, Arizona, grandchild Malakai Kameron Costales, brother Glen Creston Easterling Jr. of Colorado Springs, Colorado, sisters Heidi Annette Easterling of Everett, Washington and Cassandra Leah Miska of Warwick, New York, and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces nephews and cousins.

Robert T. Kunioka
Robert T. Kunioka passed away on April 6, 2022, at the age of 91, at his residence. He was born on Jan. 6, 1931, in Koloa. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army and a retired microbiologist for the state Department of Health.
He was preceded in death by parents Jiro and Asayo Kunioka, brother Wallace Kunioka, sister Mildred Sugimura and son-in-law Edward Kunioka-Volz.
He is survived by wife Dorothy S. Kunioka, sons Keith (Monica) Kunioka of Kapa‘a and Scott Kunioka of Honolulu, daughters Karen (Randy) Kawate of Hilo, Hawai‘i and Sheri Kunioka-Volz of Kapa‘a, grandchildren Christin Kekaualua, Brandon Kawate, Tiana Kunioka, Takara Kunioka, Tyson Rabago, Nichol Kunioka-Volz, Lani Kunioka-Volz, Kacie Kunioka-Volz, Maika Kunioka and Malia Kunioka, great-grandchildren Taylor “Pili” Quinories, Brookelynn Kekaualua, Colten Kekaualua, Hina‘ea Alapa, Ka‘ana Lopez, Ka‘eokai Lopez, Alina Kimura, Kaizen Kunioka-Knuepfel, Cade Kunioka and Tyson Arruda-Rabago, great-great-grandchild Aiko Kekaualua-Bannister, sister Janet Oshima of Oceanside, California, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Bok Soon “B” Kalaiwa‘a, of Anahola, passed away on April 28, 2022, at the age of 90. She was born on Feb. 3, 1932, in Amau‘ulu, Hawai‘i.
She is survived by husband George Pu‘u Kalaiwa‘a, children Nadine N. (Steve Milter) Kalaiwa‘a, George E.”Keoki” Kalaiwa‘a, Dereck A. (Norine) Kalaiwa‘a, Andrew L. “AJ” Kalaiwa‘a, and Francis K. (Kimberlee) Kalaiwa‘a, grandchildren Lindsey K. Kalaiwa‘a, Allyn N. Kalaiwa‘a, Lawson N. Kalaiwa‘a, Luke A. Kalaiwa‘a and Logan M. Kalaiwa‘a.
