LIHU‘E — The Kaua‘i High baseball team improved to 5-1 in the Kaua‘i Intescholastic Federation following the Raiders’ double wins — 3-1 and 5-1 — against Kapa‘a High Saturday during contests waged at the Ron Martin Field on the Kapa‘a campus.
Right on the heels of the Red Raiders, Waimea High improved to 4-1 following its 15-5 win against Island School that was shortened due to the 10-run ruling at Vidinha Stadium in Lihu‘e.
No game details, or the score of the nightcap, were available by presstime.
Kapa‘a drops to 2-4 in the standings, and Island School is looking for its first season win at 0-5.
Red Raider pitcher Brayden Itamura picked up the win on the hill in game one by limiting Kapa‘a to just one run on three hits while striking out six Warrior hitters.
Racen Pegeder led the Kaua‘i bats that totalled 11 hits for its three runs. Pegeder scored once, was three for four with a home run and two RBI.
Other Raider hitters in the first game included Austin Renaud, Evan Batalucco, Caisen Medina with an RBI, and Aukai Arruda getting two hits.
Kapa‘a hitters included Keoki Ibaan and Chysen Manintin getting two hits.
Bob Manintin suffered the loss on the hill in six innings, giving up two runs on 10 hits while striking out two Red Raiders and walking two.
Wailele Kane-Yates topped game two with a home run mixed in with the 12 hits Kaua‘i made for its five runs. Kane-Yates also scored twice and had an RBI in his three-hit contest. Other Raiders getting hits included Batalucco getting three hits and scoring once, Darwin Bukoski, Pegeder scoring once and getting an RBI on his hit, Medina driving in a run on his hit, AJ Arruda and Aukai Arruda scoring once and driving in a run on his hit.
Batalucco was the winning pitcher for Kaua‘i, going seven innings with one run allowed on five hits and striking out seven Warrior hittes.
Ibaan suffered the loss, with 12 hits allowed for five runs, four being earned, and walking two Kaua‘i High batters while whiffing two.
Over at Vidinha Stadium, the Menehune opened their doubleheader with a 15-5 win over the Voyagers behind seven hits and six Island School miscues. The Menehune went on to survive a 6-5 win in nine innings to complete its night.
Despite having only five runs cross the plate, the Voyagers outhit Waimea, nine hits to seven, with Blake Braun, Lynden Kealoha and Kapono Sullivan leading the hits with two whacks apiece, and Braun marking an RBI, and Kealoha getting two RBI.
Chet Pimsaguan had the hot bat for Waimea, scoring once, getting three hits in four at-bats, including the sole two-bagger for Waimea, and driving in four Menehune runs.
