LIHU‘E — The Kaua‘i High girls basketball team earned the No. 3 seed in the Heide &Cook Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association Division 2 girls basketball state championships that open Wednesday at Kalani High on O‘ahu.
According to the HHSAA announcement released Saturday night, the seeded teams earn a bye on opening day. That means the Red Raiders, representing the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation, will tip-off Thursday afternoon against the winner of a non-seeded contest between Hawai‘i Baptist Academy and Pearl City.
The Raiders’ opening game will tip-off from 5 p.m. at Waipahu High School.
Division 2 top seed was awarded to Damien, with Hawai‘i Preparatory Academy earning the No. 2 seed. Kailua is the No. 4 seed. Seabury Hall of the Maui Interscholastic League earns the No. 5 seed, and will see action Wednesday night against Kamehameha Schools-Hawai‘i.
The winner of the Seabury Hall matchup will advance to face No. 4 seed Kailua on Thursday.
Other teams seeing action in Division 2 include Honoka‘a, Sacred Hearts, Kalaheo and Hanalani.
The championship game for Division 2 will tip-off at 5 p.m. Saturday at the Neal Blaisdell Center on O‘ahu.
Iolani School earned the top seed for Division 1 that will tip-off from Wednesday at locations around the state.
With the top seed, Iolani will see action Thursday in the quarterfinals on O‘ahu, when it meets the winner of a Wednesday contest between Maui High School and Kaiser High School at Maui High.
Konawaena, the No. 2 seed in Division 1, will not play on the Big Island, but instead will tip off at McKinley High School on O‘ahu Thursday against the winner of a game between Mililani and Roosevelt Wednesday.
Similarly, Lahainaluna High School of the MIL will tip off, Thursday as the No 3 seed in D1 against the winner of play between Punahou Schools and Radford High School, Wednesday.
Campbell High School earns the No. 4 seed in D1, and will face the winner of the Wednesday contest between Waiakea High School and Moanalua High School that will contest at Waiakea High School on the Big Island, Wednesday.
The D1 championship game will tip off at 7 p.m. Saturday at Neal Blaisdell Center.
