ANAHOLA — The Good Fix spay/neuter clinic for cats was pretty much sold out at its capacity of 100 cats Sunday when it opened its clinic at the Anahola Marketplace.
“There’re just two slots left for Sunday,” said Caitlin Taylor of the Good Fix program as she checked in an orange male cat Sunday morning. “That means we’re pretty much sold out for today.”
The Good Fix program is at the Anahola Marketplace today and Tuesday, accepting cats for free spray/neuter services starting at 8 a.m. on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration continues until the clinic reaches capacity of 100 cats a day, or until 2 p.m., whichever comes first.
The Anahola site is the final leg of the Good Fix’s Kaua‘i tour for this trip.
Last week, the Good Fix completed three days of service in Kaumakani.
“We don’t have a total of how many cats were done in Kaumakani,” Taylor said. “But from all indications, it looks good that we’ll meet our 600-animal goal for this trip.”
The Good Fix is a program of Greater Good Charities that deploys specially-trained, high-quality, high-volunteer spay/neuter surgical teams and professional trapping teams to help control pet overpopulation in communities that need it most.
Good Fix also provides vaccination services to owned and community pets, educates community members on the importance of spay/neuter, and provides training opportunities for local veterinarians.
“This is wonderful that you’re doing this,” said a resident who brought in a cat for a neighbor who was physically not able to do it herself. “And it’s free? Let me contribute something to help others who might not be able to afford this.”
