HONOLULU — The Kapa‘a High School football team under head coach Michael Tresler earned the top seed for Division II in an announcement by the Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association Friday night.
With its top seed, the Warriors will take on No. 4 seed Hawai‘i Preparatory Academy when the First Hawaiian Bank/HHSAA Division II 2021 Football State Championships kick off Wednesday at Farrington High School on O‘ahu. The game starts at 3 p.m.
The HHSAA seedings and brackets for Division II could not be established until the close of the O‘ahu Interscholastic Association Division II play Friday when Kaiser High School roared back in the second half to defeat Radford High School, 52-17, behind a record-setting performance by Kamakana Mahiko, who pulled in 154 yards including a Cougar touchdown.
The Cougars’ victory makes Kaiser he No. 2 seed, and they will face the No. 3 seed Kamehameha Schools-Maui of the Maui Interscholastic League Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Farrington High School.
The winners of the Division II semifinals Wednesday will meet for the Division II championships on Thursday, Dec. 30, at Farrington, starting at 7 p.m.
