‘OMA‘O — More than 120 extreme enduro racers competed in the ‘Oma‘o trails during the Garden Island Motorcycle Club 67th annual Labor Day Hare and Hound, said Bertram Almeida, GIMC president.
Following all of the COVID-19 rules, the racing was divided into a two-day event to limit crowd size in the trail area off Kaumuali‘i Highway. Riders in the A Class, or expert, competed on Saturday, and the B Class riders, or intermediate division, ran the trails Sunday for trophies and bragging rights.
“Face-mask wearing and social distancing was strictly enforced, and no community spread or illnesses were reported,” Almeida said. “No injuries were reported — just a few bruised egos and broken bikes.”
“We would like to thank the Knudsen Trust, all of our sponsors, volunteer supporters, participants, and especially Mayor Derek S.K. Kawakami, Department of Parks &Recreation Director Patrick Porter, and the COVID task force for their guidance and support to make this event take place,” said Almeida.
