Phil Kaupp of California (must’ve been that Canadian penny used to scrape) was thrilled when he found the Tori Richards face mask and portable hand sanitizers, even more than getting a free Uncle’s shave ice. And Sara Miura got restaurant discounts (sounds like lunch for the crew at Deja Vu Surf Hawai‘i) for her donation.
Pillare said we need to wait until Emma (Stacie Chiba-Miguel’s daughter) gets to the market because no one can do it better than she can. OK, we got until Sept. 12 at the weekly farmers’ market only!
Kudos to the U.S Coast Guard for coordinating a multi-agency training exercise. The fire boat got to get its feet wet, and wow! new personal rescue craft (good to see Kaua‘i Fire Department Ocean Safety Bureau lifeguard Eugene Ancheta again) with digital touch screens.
And Mayor Derek Kawakami got to pilot one of those motorized lifeboats that carry a $2.5-million price tag.
And kudos, too, to The Salvation Army Lihu‘e Corps for continuing the relief efforts while Capt. Shawn Keoho recovers from a foot ailment. Wacky Wednesdays at the thrift store means a 50% discount!
