12th Grade swimmers from the four member schools of the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation were saluted for their efforts and achievements leading up to 2020 when the KIF Swimming season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Kaua‘i High School swim coach Kelsey Tanaka felt that despite not having a swim season, the students — from Kaua‘i High School include Napua Canales, Alana Cayabyab, Allison Etrata, Jeremy Herr, Nevaeh Ibanez, Kai Norman, Isabella Roberts; from Waimea High School include Zsa Zsa DuBose, Alzaldy Manzano, David Richards, Talia Schmidt; from Kapa‘a High School includes Kamalei Berg; and Island School includes Olivia Lutkevich — should be recognized for their efforts that brought them to the starting blocks of the scrapped 2021 season. The drive-by recognition effortt that included fun competitive swim activities was coordinated by Tanaka, including securing approval for the facility use at the Kaua‘i High School pool, Saturday.

Tiffany Sagucio is waiting to turn over the Miss Kaua‘i Filipina crown after reigning for nearly two years because of the COVID-19 pandemic. She said the next scholarship pageant presented by the Kaua‘i Filipino Community Council is coming up in June, but will be scaled down in consideration of the pandemic.
