LIHU‘E — A Lawa‘i woman’s case was continued for a jury trial on May 10, with a pretrial conference moved to April 14, in Fifth Circuit Court Monday morning.
Leona Boggs, 43, was arrested in August 2020 on two counts of promoting a dangerous drug in the first degree, both considered Class A felonies. Boggs entered a plea of not guilty on both counts.
Criminal defense attorney Mark Zenger requested a continuance in the ordinary course, which the state didn’t have any objections to. Zenger also requested a pretrial motion filed in the case by April 1, and the state prosecuting attorney had no objections.
Boggs paid $1,300 to bond out on two petty misdemeanor charges of promoting a dangerous drug in the third degree and a Class C felony charge promoting a dangerous drug in the third degree in December 2018.
These charges were later dismissed without prejudice.
Boggs was arrested on January 17, 2019, for promoting a dangerous drug in the third degree and possession of a firearm. These charges are still pending.
According to a KPD release, a Fifth Circuit Grand Jury returned two indictments charging Kevin Boggs, Leona Boggs, and Nicholas “Nico” McPeek with a total of 33 charges pertaining to multiple incidents occurring in November 2019.
A federal arrest warrant was issued for Boggs for allegedly harboring and concealing fugitive Orlando Manguchei in the mountains of Kaua’i.
Boggs was located and apprehended by Honolulu Police at the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport.
In the second indictment, the Grand Jury charged Kevin and Leona Boggs with seven charges including two counts of promoting a dangerous drug in the third degree, two counts of theft in the first degree, and three counts of prohibited possession of firearm or ammunition. McPeek was charged in the same indictment on separate charges.
Boggs’ bail is currently set in the amount of $200,0000 for all of her cases.
