Georgia Bulldogs tight end Kolby Wyatt has announced his intentions to transfer to the University of Hawai‘i, according to USA Today’s UGA wire.
The report stated Wyatt entered the transfer portal immediately after the Bulldogs’ 44-28 loss to the University of Florida on Nov. 7.
Wyatt expressed his enthusiasm about joining the Rainbow Warriors’ program following their 4-4, COVID-19-shortened season.
“I would like to say ‘thank you’ to everyone that played a part in me getting to this moment,” Wyatt said on his Twitter page. “To all my family, friends, coaches, trainers, and every person who put a word in for me with coaches or help share my film, I truly thank y’all.”
Wyatt expounded on his Twitter message to his friends and the Bulldogs’ fan base.
“I would like to thank all of the schools who offered me a scholarship, but after a thoughtful prayer and consideration, I’ve decided to commit and enroll this spring at the University of Hawai‘i.”
Wyatt, a redshirt sophomore, didn’t receive a lot of playing time with the Southeastern Conference powerhouse, playing four games and failing to record any receptions.
In the first of year, Wyatt made the switch from defensive end to tight end in spring drills, accompanied by a number switch from 91 to 82. He earned a spot on the Black team for the 2019 G-Day Game and was named to the J. Reid Parker Director of Athletics Honor Roll for Spring 2019.
During his freshman year, Wyatt also played sparingly on the defensive side of the football. Wyatt recorded only one assisted tackle during his time on defense.
During his high-school career, Wyatt was a multi-sport athlete at Shiloh High School in Georgia.
Wyatt played basketball, track and football, and was named Gwinnett Scholar of the Year three consecutive years, from his sophomore year to his senior year as an advanced-placement student.
In recent years, Georgia’s program has produced former Denver Broncos’ running back Terrell Davis and current Detroit Lions’ quarterback Matthew Stafford.
Currently, at Georgia, Wyatt is majoring in social work, and he ended his Twitter announcement with a “#82free.”
