Kaua‘i Family Community Education members join county, state, and parish members in sponsoring a national Essay and Artwork Contest for fourth grade students. This contest in held annually and the 2021 theme is RESPONSIBILITY. Students are to write an essay and create a hand drawn picture around this theme.
This national contest is known as Character Counts!® and the Six Pillars of Character are: Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring and Citizenship. Used in an acronym, “T.R.R.F.C.C.” (terrific) topics are rotated in order annually. The contest is open to any fourth grade-level student attending public, private, or homeschool. It’s an provides an opportunity for students to improve literacy skills and develop ethical values.
Kaua‘i Family Community Education, the local sponsoring organization, provides leadership, education, and community action with aloha. The Kaua‘i island winner’s contest entry is forwarded to our state and national affiliates for judging and additional contest prizes. Kaua‘i boasts three recent state winners and each student placed in the top three nationally.
