Black Friday week starts Monday at Choi Village next to the Ross Dress for Less in Waipouli, said Meghan Matsuda-Blaylock (she was helping at the Kaua‘i Housing Connect outreach Tuesday at Salt Pond Beach Park in Hanapepe), which will offer crafters a place to sell their wares during this COVID-19 pandemic when a lot of the smaller craft fairs and gatherings have disappeared.
Meghan said the event will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Saturday, with vendors being inside and the outdoor areas reserved for food trucks. Face masks are required, and the event is the entire week, so people can spread out.
Gayle Konishi (she was at the weekend’s Shop-and-Stroll at Kukui Grove Center) said this year’s Kaua‘i Handworks (remember that Saturday-after-Thanksgiving big craft fair?) fair is online only at kauaihandworks.com. That means you can order right now. How are they going to capture that Edwin Vea and the manapua bags flavor, or the fragrance of the cinnamon swirl Kaua‘i by Wendi Sato (not to mention seeing coach working the crowd)? OK, this is only until the COVID-19 blows over. Hopefully, we’ll be back at the Elsie Wilcox Elementary School cafeteria next year.
The Salvation Army Lt. Amy Lewis of the Hanapepe Corps had help from Advisory Board members Char Cacal and Dickie Chang in working the Kaua‘i Housing Connect outreach, and is now looking ahead to Wednesday when the Hanapepe Corps serves Thanksgiving lunch starting at noon. It’s either grab-and-go or drive-thru only.
OK, time to go visit Melissia Sugai and her county Office of Economic Development ‘ohana at the big Kaua‘i Made festival that combines with Puhi Park Produce starting at 9:30 a.m. Saturday. Don’t forget face masks.
