LIHU‘E — Yesterday, Kaua‘i District Health officials announced two new positive cases of COVID-19, both related to inter-island travel. This brings the active case count to four, and the cumulative total to 51.
LIHU‘E — Yesterday, Kaua‘i District Health officials announced two new positive cases of COVID-19, both related to inter-island travel. This brings the active case count to four, and the cumulative total to 51.
The adult two cases announced Tuesday are unrelated to each other and unrelated to cases announced earlier this week. All four active cases remain in isolation and have not required hospitalization.
Contacts of the new cases have been notified, quarantined and offered a test, according to the county.
State health officials reported 118 new cases on Tuesday, the majority on O‘ahu, four on Maui and two on Hawai‘i Island.
Since February, the state has identified 3,756 cases statewide. Of those, 7% have required hospitalization, and 34 have resulted in death.
I hope they didn’t walk by the Kaina Makua group (no masks!!!) while transiting the airport.
Not very sustainable if you ask me.
So, let’s see…
3,756 (known) cases at a 7% hospitalization rate is 293 hospitalizations. The total number of staffed hospital hospital beds in Hawaii is 2,583 (from American Hospital Directory).
If all of the Hawaiian coronavirus patients since the beginning were in hospital beds at the very same time, that would fill only 10% of Hawaii’s hospital bed capacity.
3,756 (known) cases with 34 deaths makes the mortality rate of known infections about 9 tenths of one percent.
If actual infections are higher but unknown because of lack of testing, the mortality rate would be even lower.
Not very apocalyptic.
Americans, especially the media, do a terrible job at understand risk. You want hear “it’s apocalyptic” or “it’s harmless”, but the reality is somewhere in the middle and still dangerous. How does your brain interpret 170,000 deaths after 5 months? It’s still terrible and even 70 deaths on Kauai would be more than every traffic fatality from the last decade on island.
Yes. If only more people would do a minuscule amount of research.

January-July 2017 the USA averaged 7,700 deaths per day.
January-July 2020 the USA averaged 7,434 deaths per day.
Why are we shut down?
To keep that number low?
Thank the Lord, IGE extended the quarantine- Locals can’t blame Haoles for the spike in cases…… Like they do for every other malady in this State.
