NAWILIWILI — Daezsa Tomas-Tamagawa won her Skins game over Tim Mira, and the Kaua‘i Independent Food Bank got $1,341, Monday afternoon.
Tomas-Tamagawa, employed by the County of Kaua‘i, and the Hokuala Pro Shop, was challenged to the Skins game by Mira and his team that included Christy Nagao and Cory Mira, the winner getting pledges and funds to a nonprofit of their choosing.
“Tim chose the Kaua‘i Lifeguard Association, and I selected the Kaua‘i Independent Food Bank,” Tomas-Tamagawa said. “I took the first hole — we played three holes, the No. 14, No. 15, and No. 16 all oceanfront holes at the Ocean Course — and spectators pledged in anticipation of who would win.”
Tomas-Tamagawa, a former Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation golfer for Kaua‘i High School, and a member of the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa women’s golf team, said they played at Hokuala as part of celebrating the opening of the Ocean Course on July 1.
“That was pretty fun,” Tomas-Tamagwa said. “It feels good to get back on the course, again.”
Following the presentation, Tomas-Tamagwa was offered a tour of the KIFB Nawiliwili warehouse where she spent her high school years volunteering with the Kaua‘i High School Key Club.
“It’s all good,” she said after receiving insight into some of the tasks they volunteered for when she was in high school.
The Kaua‘i Independent Food Bank maintains emergency food pickups at its Nawiliwili warehouse on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to noon.
