LIHUE – The County of Kauai announces the following changes in Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the Wailua Golf Course to provide for the health, safety, and welfare of the people of Kauai from the potential spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

Valid Sunday, March 22, payments for green fees at the Wailua Golf Course will only be accepted electronically via credit or debit cards. Additionally, the use of motorized golf carts will be suspended until further notice.
The Wailua Golf Course will deploy other social-distancing measures as appropriate. To view a copy of the emergency proclamation, visit the County of Kaua‘i’s website at: kauai.gov/KEMA.
Why still open!!???

If the concern is that two people are sitting next to each other, then is the next step the prohibition of any two people in the same car? Police, one per car? Firemen, one per truck? Ambulance drivers, one per vehicle? All County of Kauai associates, one per car?
Please explain why carts are being prohibited.
Possibly, instead of suspending electric golf carts you could restrict the cart to one person per cart.
Especially for the disabled seniors. Golf is about the only exercise some of them get.
DMV issues certificates that could verify true disabilities, or doctors letters could be used if you are worried about someone gaming this exemption.

Why not take the only measure that will protect the island – stop all flights – both in and out, No entry or exit.
If golf carts are spreading the virus – so are cars and anything else we may do that puts us close to a possibly infected person. Let’s take the bitter pill and get this done.
Why is it still open? They closed all other County Facilities, why is the Golf Course so special?
Mayor Kawakami surfs. Surfing at waiohai is packed at the peak and not as safe . But the Mayor want’s to let people surf. Playing golf as a twosome each in a seperate cart that we clean with lysol prior to use is safer than going down narrow aisles at Costco. Social distancing also was required.
We could also pay $10 or more extra to help.
