Mayor Kawakami, please do something to repair the pedestrian walk over bridge in Eleele at the intersection where Eleele Road meets Kaumuali‘i Highway at the crosswalk. It’s about the third time someone has taken out the mile-marker sign and the pedestrian alert button (to cross the highway) on a small, three-foot post. At that area, drivers are traveling way too fast to beat the signal light and lose control, running over the post and mile marker. It’s just lucky there weren’t any pedestrians waiting there at the post when it happened.
Mayor Kawakami, “do something to expedite the repair of that pedestrian walk over bridge?” Don’t wait until a fatality happens.

Consider role of towers in safety talks
Relative to the recent helicopter crash in Koke‘e, what was curious to me was that the weather was not that bad at that time on Thursday. I noticed the plane flew close to the military microwave towers in Koke‘e.
Could it be that the electronics of the helicopter went out as a result of flying too close to the military towers in that area? It is interesting that even their tracking device was dead, which is very unusual.
Can the military put a system in place that warns pilots about the towers, and people, for that matter, and what about the birds? So this doesn’t happen again, if this truly was what happened.
Isn’t using microwaves in an environment that houses several endangered birds against the law? Was an EIS ever issued before the installation of these 26 towers? Will these tragedies continue to occur?

I don’t think the mayor needs to be worrying about people who use bridges! People who own property around Rice street need planters and beautification projects!! Not sure, but this is the same Mayor who put in the boulders at Salt Pond. I call that progress!! Anyone who does not drive a late model Ford Raptor or similar truck should think about the family they were born into and the decisions that cannot afford them said truck, before complaining about having to use bridges!!
There are 48 FCC approved microwave towers in Lihue alone.

If your fears were justified, nothing would take off or land at Kauai’s airport.
Keep in mind that the military installation you cite is a tracking station. That means that most of the infrastructure you see, and all those dishes, are there to RECEIVE info, not send it.
Don’t confuse people with facts, Pete. That’s not the way on Kauai.
