Angela Ventura (she’s back following some months working at an Alaskan restaurant!) was thrilled when The Great Pumpkin (he didn’t walk on water, too!) visited the Kauai Gynmastics bridge set up in the trunk of a Jeep during the Trunk or Treat event at Kukui Grove Center on Halloween Thursday.
Kudos to Melissa McFerrin-Warrack (she was busy delivering candies to center tenants), John and Rhonda Cabello, Vonn Ramos, Val Faford, Nannie Apalla, and all the people in the Resilience Project who coordinated the first Trunk or Treat (Harvey Maeda and his Kauai Classic Cars missed out on a great opportunity to ‘dress up’ their cars) in an effort to create a safe and fun place for young people to celebrate Halloween.
Anna Munoz had some of the special needs people helping with the pumpkin toss that had a line waiting for a turn to win some treats, and Josh Pajela did a great DJ gig that had Val Faford rocking in the streets along with the steady stream of trick-or-treaters (yes, even the “Toy Story” entourage from Wilcox Medical Center made a stop here) who were early enough to hit some of the neighborhoods for more trick-or-treating.
The crowd was hungry enough that Melissa distributed candy among the tenants, who passed them out to trick-or-treaters looking for more, and she said it was a pleasure watching parents enjoy meals and snacks while the young ‘uns worked off the sugar rush following the event that wrapped up in enough time for more neighborhood partying.
There’s still time before 11 a.m. to catch some of that fundraising breakfast hosted by the Lihue Raiders Pop Warner Association at the Kauai War Memorial Convention Hall, and don’t forget the spaghetti dinner coming up Wednesday, Nov. 6 from 5 to 8 p.m.
