HONOLULU — For the first time, Hawaii Democrats will be engaging in a new way to select the state’s delegates to the Democratic National Convention next July in Milwaukee.
The party-run presidential primary scheduled for April 4 will include vote-by-mail and ranked choice voting.
“We’re excited to offer our membership the ability to engage in the party-run presidential primary through mail-in voting, and with so many great Democratic candidates, it is a positive development that our members will be able to rank their top three presidential candidates,” said Interim Chair Stanley in a press release on Tuesday.
The new delegate selection plan outlines a party enrollment deadline of Feb. 18 to receive a ballot in the initial mailing.
There will also be a secondary mailing of ballots to those who enroll by March 8.
All mail-in ballots must be received by April 4, the same day that polling sites will be open for walk-in voting throughout the state. Registered voters of Hawaii can engage in same-day party enrollment and vote during polling hours.
