LIHUE — There was a flash of red when Joshua Galiza was announced as the Kauai High School Homecoming King Friday night during the Kauai Interscholastic Federation football game against Kapaa High School at Vidinha Stadium.
Galiza broke away from his mom Jessica Galiza’s escort and whipped out a red laser saber for an impromptu jig while awaiting the arrival of the Red Raider Homecoming Queen Hillary Carlos.
The Red Raider homecoming royalty capped a week of homecoming festivities that extended to a rally Saturday night at Kukui Grove Center, where a parade heralded the night of excitement.
Joining the homecoming royalty, Anna Burkman donned the sash of Miss Raider, Waileia Edwards wore the crown of Miss Victory before adjourning to her KIF girls volleyball game, Miya Reese didn’t have a football for her Miss Football reign, and Rebekah Corpuz donned the wear of Miss Spirit.
Class representatives included Cassidy Yamauchi heralding the Class of 2020, Xarika Casticimo represented the Class of 2021 that was also announced the winner of the spirit contest judging, Holly Taguma donned the sash representing the Class of 2022, and Zarah “Hema” Naka‘ahiki-Young represented the Class of 2023, escorted by her brother Jaykob.
Waimea High School will celebrate its homecoming during the football game against Kapaa Friday, Sept. 20, at Hanapepe Stadium.
