Teach by example
I am writing back regards the article published yesterday in the newspaper about the safety of our keiki on the island (June 17 TGI: “Kauai Christian Fellowship bring youth groups to Queen’s Bath”).
As a parent, I totally disagree about Edge youth events with unnecessary exposure to dangerous situations. There are so many awesome hiking places around Kauai that are safer than jumping off Queen’s Bath and Ho‘opi‘i Falls. Why should a church youth group encourage risky behavior at locations where deaths occur and ignore official warnings on radio, newspaper and posted signs?
As a church…what about teaching by example the values of honesty, integrity, respect, and learning right from wrong?
Many times the ocean conditions were supposed to be safe and tourists, locals and keiki got injured or killed.
Prevention is better than being sorry.
Let’s create an awareness in us (parents-leaders-coaches-church members) where our kids will follow to a place of creativity-expansion and fulfillment.
Big mahalo to the soul who wrote that article so many other parents (who are always busy and working as we must do in the island) will understand the deep dangers of these places.
We want what is pono for our keiki. Let’s do it by example.

An old Sage said that One of the Vital Elements of a long life, LONGEVITY, is:
“DON’T TAKE CHANCES…! ! !”
Yup, best just stay inside the lines and never cross the street. Good thing many throughout history didn’t live like that.
So keep them all boxed up till there old enough to go on there on there own, then let them jump in. Teenagers are often a danger to themselves. I think a seasoned guide is much safer. And the kiki have adult parents to make those decisions and sign wavers. And most people can walk and talk at the same time, say about the love of Christ and hope of salvation.
