LIHUE — With school out for summer break, there are no lunches for children who rely on the free and reduced-price program for food, said Akemi Dizol, an associate with Deja Vu Surf Hawaii.
The food drive being conducted by the Miura Store ohana, including Deja Vu Surf Hawaii in Kukui Grove Center, Quiksilver in The Shops at Kukuiula, and Deja Vu Surf Hawaii in Kapaa, through June, attempts to address that issue with the Kauai Independent Food Bank being the beneficiary.
“This is the Miura Store 110th anniversary,” said Jenny Ihara-Takase, Miura Store merchandise manager. “Our focus is community, and we will celebrate our anniversary with the food drive.”
Contributors of five or more nonperishable food items will receive entry into a random-prize drawing for one of three $50 Deja Vu Surf Hawaii gift cards.
Items needed by the KIFB include rice and grains, pasta and pasta sauce, canned protein, canned soups and stews, canned vegetables and fruits, peanut butter and Tahinni, powdered or shelf-stable milk, and hot and cold cereal.
