MANA — There were a lot of competitive races Saturday when the Garden Isle Racing Association and the Kauai Junior Dragsters hosted its summer race at the Kauai Raceway Park.
Just one race final was settled by red light, and just another settled by break out, resulting in a field filled with tight bracket racing competition.
Brian Dow, piloting a 1965 Mustang, red lighted, reaching an Estimated Time of 10.19 seconds and hitting 129.56 mph on a 10.20 dial-in. This gave the Super Pro class to Lennox Camat who drove his ‘72 Vega to 10.14 ET, reaching 132.16 mph on a 10.10 dial in.
Jon Nakashima broke out in his ‘14 Camaro, reaching a 10.64 ET at 120.8 mph on a 10.70 dial-in. This gave the Pro ET class to Randy Lawrence who piloted his Vega to a 10.20 ET, reaching 128.48 mph on a 7.09 dial in.
Christopher Silva topped the Junior Dragster class by piloting his junior dragster to an 8.05 ET, reaching 75.57 mph on a 7.97 dial in down the half track over the efforts of Devin Almarza who finished the final run on a 7.95 ET to reach 81.39 mph on a 7.90 dial in. Kelsey Kai filled in the semifinal winner’s spot.
Robby Silva powered his dragster to a 7.15 ET to reach 185.08 mph on a 7.08 dial in to claim Top Gun honors over Koty Kaiakapu whose ‘67 Nova hit a 9.37 ET and 141.95 mph on a 9.25 dial in during the final run.
Alma Koetje brought honor to the women drivers by claiming the Muscle V8 class in her ‘98 Corvette that hit 12.25 ET during the final run, topping 111.47 mph on a 12.27 dial in over the efforts of Liko Perreira and his ‘90 Mustang.
Brandon Fujishige claimed the Sport Compact class when his ‘18 ATS-V stopped the clocks at 12.38, reaching 114.6 mph on a 12.38 dial in over the efforts of Brie Saiki whose ‘00 Civic reached 64.99 ET on a 13.23 dial in.
Street class honors went to Jace Alquiza who clocked 14.93 ET on an 89.10 mph run on a 14.60 dial in during the final run over Seth Morales whose ‘92 Civic ran a 14.60 ET, hitting 90.72 mph on a 14.10 dial in.
Adam Beetles stayed ahead of Mike Wellman in the Bike ET class when Beetles hit the final run on an 11.49 ET, reaching 119.93 mph on an 11.40 dial in over Wellman’s run that stopped the clocks at 10.42 on a 139.66 mph run o ver a 10.26 dial in.
The GIRA hosts the next races — the July Fourth event — on July 5 and 6 at the Kauai Raceway Park in Mana.
