HANAPEPE — The Salvation Army will be offering hot dogs from its mobile canteen as they demonstrate how they assist communities during disasters.
They will be joined by other organizations in presenting hands-on experiences in preparing for disasters during the free Kauai Community Disaster Preparedness Fair from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Hanapepe National Guard armory.
The Hanapepe-Eleele Community Association will be recognized as the first Neighbor Island Hawaii Hazards Awareness and Resilience Program community.
Children can explore fire trucks and ambulances, firefighters will teach the proper use of fire extinguishers, and everyone can try out radios that can work when landlines and cell phones fail.
There will be stations to learn first aid, control bleeding and do head-to-toe assessments.
Presentations will be done on caring for the elderly during a disaster, home and business insurance, making a home stronger to withstand winds, and knowing how to respond to all kinds of disasters.
