HANALEI — The flash flood warning for the islands of Kauai and Niihau has expired, according to the National Weather Service. However, Kuhio Highway in the vicinity of the Hanalei Bridge remains closed until further notice due to flooding. The highway will reopen as soon as it is safe for travel.
State Department of Transportation crews have cleared a landslide that occurred earlier on Kuhio Highway in Hanalei.
The section of Kuhio Highway between Waikoko and Wainiha was also closed for roughly two hours Saturday morning due to flooding. The roadway has since reopened and the convoys have resumed on a holiday schedule. The public is reminded that this area is open to local residents only. Access beyond the Wainiha checkpoint requires a placard issued by the county.
