LIHUE — The Kauai Island Utility Cooperative Nominating Committee has selected three candidates for its Board of Directors election on March 23, all of them incumbents: Calvin Murashige, Jan TenBruggencate and Peter Yukimura.
LIHUE — The Kauai Island Utility Cooperative Nominating Committee has selected three candidates for its Board of Directors election on March 23, all of them incumbents: Calvin Murashige, Jan TenBruggencate and Peter Yukimura.
Three of the nine director positions are up for election annually. Members can also run for the cooperative’s board by submitting a petition with the signatures of at least 35 members by the close of business on Jan. 10.
All potential candidates must complete the prospective director candidate application and authority to release information form, comply with Board Policy 18 and attend the orientation on Jan. 10 at 4 p.m. to confirm a willingness to serve.

Every KIUC candidate should be asked WHEN the utility plans to install a 24 hour problem line that lets customers know the following about power outages: WHERE does the problem extend to? WHEN do you think the problem will be fixed?
It is ludicrous that KIUC can print and distribute a student art calendar (which I enjoy) and list “IMPORTANT #s” which does not include an after-hours “REPORT PROBLEM/LEARN ABOUT PROBLEM” phone line,.
Get it together, fellas, and do your job better. Communicate with your customers!
Seems kind of fishy and possible conflict of interest when then Mayor Joann Yukimura passed a policy that benefited her brother Peter Yukimura’s company and now he sits on the KIUC board of which her husband’s own company that generates hydro electric power which he sells to KIUC.
And to make matters worst, it is Grove Farm who benefited in turn selling “processed” water to KIUC for $200,000 every year. Talk about corruption.
